Academics & Technology
I have always loved the university setting. I feel
disconnected without it nearby. It is what has led me to more than one degree
in undergrad. The same for my graduate studies. The subjects I chose have been
diverse because my academic interests reflect a piece of my progressive
understanding of the interconnected fabric of life. But I do know I have never done well with standardized tests.
Learning has remained a staple in my life. I am always researching something, often esoteric. It included electronics and computers. When I was young my father would bring random computers home for me to play with. One even included an Apple III (http://oldcomputers.net/appleiii.html) which with my Commodore VIC-20, I learned how to create simple computer programs.
My interest in computers, although not based on any of my university degrees, yielded me a position in the multiple university computer labs, database positions, and eventually starting my own company specializing in IT consulting for small clients setting up and maintaining their technology. I did this along with buying, configuring, and selling pallets of routers and telecom equipment domestically and (especially) internationally.
I have learned many important pieces on this path. I see technology embedded into almost everything we will be doing in the future (the Internet of things). Many insights I have realized have to do with data integrity, design functionality, social engineering, security, reliability, and especially trust.

My most recent academic work is my Master's Thesis:
State-Seeking Nations: Critical Success Factors, Including Moderate UN Security Council Reform (Working copy)
I am fascinated with the underdog - in this case those abandoned not-quite worthy of Statehood.
